| Rollover Answers How do I roll my 401k account over to my new employer's 401(k) plan? First check to see if your new employer's plan allows rollovers. Assuming it does, contact your old employer's employee benefits department and tell them you would like to roll your account over to your new employer. You will need to complete some forms that they will provide you. To make absolutely sure that you're making a direct rollover, be careful that your former employer makes the check directly payable to your new 401(k) plan's trustee, not to you. Otherwise, you'll be taxed as if you were completely cashing out. This same process applies if you are rolling over to an IRA. |
